takas.. part 3

She was lucky that night because the landlady took her word without confirming it. Otherwise, they would have discovered that she was faking her menstruation. She has to do something about it, she though. So she went to the kitchen, look for ketchup & soy sauce, mixed it and drop the concoction on her undies.

She was safe for the night! But for how long, she asked? She knows that she can only last for two or three days before the landlady would finally fed her to the customers. There has to be a way.

The following day, she acted naturally and pretended that she was already comfortable with the arrangement. She casually exchanges chitchats with the ladies and then join with the landlady during lunch. They talked, laughed and she sweet-talked the landlady on how much money can she earned. She was pretending that she likes to stay and do not have any intentions of leaving. By the end of the day, she gained the trust of everyone... and more importantly, she already knows her way out to escape.

7pm, the ladies were preparing in their respective rooms, and the landlady was taking a bath. That was the cue she was waiting for. She took the opportunity and went inside the master bedroom. It only took her a minute to find the house keys in the landlady's purse.

The next thing she remembers, she was running on an empty street on a dark evening. Fear was filling her thoughts because she thought that if the police would catch her, she would be dead.

According to her story, an Indian taxi cab passes by that offered her a ride. She was afraid because she would endanger herself with this stranger, but she was more fearful that some locals might pick her up and do harm to her. Left with no choice, she chooses the lesser evil. She went with the cabbie - an old man - that brought her to his flat. The cabbie did not stay that night. He continued with his driving chores but promised to be back the following morning to bring her to the Diplomatic Quarters.

Early on the following morning, they went to the Philippine Embassy. It was still close when she reached there so she decided to proceed to Batha - the Filipino Market. She was hoping to find some Filipino who would be willing to help her, she explained.

6 am. Only a handful of people were walking on the streets of Batha. It was still early and nobody was there whom she could ask for help. Until one Pakistani taxicab showed kindness and offered to bring her to RIS. The cabbie explained that the place is a Filipino School and surely, there will be people in that place that may help her.

That is where she found her current employer, a Filipino couple with two kids.
